Hello, I'm Michelle Garrett. I grew up in South Africa but have been living in London for 20 years. With my family abroad, I've realised that funerals, like weddings, are often the only occasions in years that the extended family meet. As a photographer, I feel passionate about using my work to help the bereaved in their grieving process.
I produce memory books, a tangible photographic record of the funeral, something to hold and look at after the funeral, a comfort that can act as closure, an important part of the grieving process. These books enable the bereaved to look over the day of the funeral, to see the things they might have missed in the emotion of the day, and learn to adjust to the loss of their loved one. In time the books become precious keepsakes of lasting value.
